Rev. Brian Smith Appointed to Waleska United Methodist Church
WALESKA, Ga., August 24, 2020 – Rev. Brian Smith has been appointed as the new pastor at Waleska United Methodist Church. His first service at the church will be September 13.
He succeeds Rev. Tim Emmett who has accepted a new church appointment. The United Methodist Church uses an itinerant system where local bishops appoint pastors to a specific church one year at a time.
“We have been blessed to have Pastor Tim at our church for nine years and appreciate his many contributions,” said Ralph Lumpkin, chairperson of the Staff Parish Relations Committee at Waleska. “We are excited to welcome Rev. Smith and his wife Jordan to Waleska. Pastor Brian’s gifts and talents will be a blessing to the Waleska United Methodist Church congregation and the greater Waleska community.”
Rev. Smith has been associate pastor at the First Methodist Church of Marietta, Ga. for the past six years. Previously, he was pastor at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Hartwell, Ga. Rev. Smith completed seminary at Duke Divinity School and received his bachelor’s degree in religion from Birmingham-Southern College.
“I am excited about the opportunity to serve as the next pastor at Waleska UMC and to move into the community,” said Rev. Smith. “My wife Jordan and I look forward to being a part of this great church where God is at work and where we all can find the love and grace of God.”
Waleska United Methodist Church is a small, but growing church located on the campus of Reinhardt University in Waleska, Ga. Church services are temporarily held outdoors at 9 a.m. on Sundays due to COVID-19. For more information, visit www.waleskaumc.org.
